Solo Show – Sandy Baker

Show on Display in the South Gallery until March 23rd

Sandy Baker, a true polymath of the arts, has left an indelible mark on the creative landscape despite facing significant challenges. With a diverse skill set encompassing various artistic mediums, Sandy has long been regarded as a master of her craft. Hailing from Syracuse, New York, Sandy’s journey into the world of art began with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University in 1969, where she majored in painting.

Her passion for painting extended to both watercolor and oil mediums, allowing her to explore the breadth of artistic expression. Throughout her career, Sandy’s talents have taken her on a multifaceted artistic journey. From serving as a graphic artist for the Upstate New York Board of Education to lending her talents to painting sailboats for a prestigious yacht club and has delved into the intricate world of Native American-inspired designs, adorning jawbones with captivating patterns and symbols.

Despite facing challenges such as significant visual impairment, Sandy’s artistic spirit remains undaunted. Though she may not be as active as she once was, Sandy continues to inspire and captivate with her creations. Sandy is our neighbor and helps us keep an eye on the place. In the eyes of Ken Beckhusen, President of the JN Long Cultural Arts Center, Sandy Baker is not only a remarkable artist but the best that JN Long Cultural Art Center has to offer. Sandy’s artistic prowess shines brightly, leaving an enduring legacy in the hearts and minds of all who encounter her work.
