Tim Goss
Tim Goss is a multiple Award winning artist, drawing Texas and Western themes in Graphite pencil from his studio in Bosque County, Texas. In addition to the awards won in National and International juried art shows, Tim was named “Emerging Artist of the Year” in 2018 at the ART COMES ALIVE! awards in Cincinnatti, Ohio. In 2019 he was named “Honorable Mention for Excellence in Drawing” by the International judges of the Paid Artist Art Show.
Tim is a self-taught artist with no formal training. He began drawing after suffering a Traumatic Brain Injury in 2010. His Doctors, told him the injury had resulted in significant cognitive loss in memory and ability to focus. He was deemed permanently disabled. Migraines, Nausea, Vertigo and Chronic Pain, kept him in bed 20 hours a day. He also experienced a palsy-like trembling in his right hand with loss of grip strength. Tim’s sister, an Occupational Therapist, suggested drawing to improve muscle memory and strength in that hand. He began drawing an hour a day. After a month he was drawing three to four hours a day and was able to stay out of bed longer.
As his art got better he sought out a teacher/mentor to accelerate his growth as an artist. He contacted a well-established artist who also taught college level art courses. She looked over Tim’s portfolio and told him he didn’t need a teacher. That he was developing his own unique look and appeared to be figuring things out very well. She felt a teacher might stifle or alter his style. She suggested Tim enter a local art show. He did so and won 1st and 2nd place in his category. Emboldened, he turned professional in 2012, two years after his injury.
After taking a sabbatical during the Pandemic, Tim is once again creating new pieces of art. He is also taking commissioned art projects again. He looks forward to resuming lecturing, teaching, and show judging in the future.
